Painkiller is among the top noise/jazz outfits
around and they're definitely not
suited for the weak of heart.
Brutal shards of pure noise bombard you one moment and another you are
completely enveloped by the dark veil of ambience. Atmospheric, somber,
and chilling; Painkiller have taken the avante-garde into there palm's
and redefined it for all.
If
you're familiar w/ Bill Laswell's other recordings you shouldn't be suprised
at this project's unorthodox nature. Laswell has contributed to numerous
recordings and many in the same vane as Painkiller.I recommend any of his
recordings on the Subharmonic label( I don't own any Axiom stuff but I
intend to obtain some) or anything w/ Laswell/Buckethead or Laswell/Harris.If
you want to know more about the man and his beret you should follow the
Axiom link below. Or the Subharmonic link right here!
As
for Mr. Zorn, well I'm least familiar w/ him but I intend to gather more
info and maybe some links pertaining to him.More to come.
Mick Harris has been around the block and look where he's landed. Once pounding the skins for Napalm Death, one of the seminal grindcore outfits, Harris's direction as totally shifted. The ambient dub of Scorn became his pursuit instead of the brutality of Napalm Death(no original members Ha!).Along w/ Justin Broadrick's recordings, Mick's music formed an invitation for me into this vast underworld of experimentation. I recommend his other recordings including Scorn,Lull,Divination...etc.
